Margaret Spurling

Margaret worked as a Junior Primary teacher and taught in Adelaide from 1971 to 1980. While Margaret was teaching, most of the picture books teachers used in the classroom were from overseas and mainly from the UK. However, in the 1980s, Australian picture books grew in numbers, especially with the publishing of One Woolly Wombat and Possum Magic. As a result, she was inspired to write a picture book to teach children about the phases of the moon from an Australian perspective. This idea became her first book, Bilby Moon, which was published in 2000. Her second book, Seadragon, was published in 2006.
