This booklet has been designed by the Raising Literacy team to help families understand the importance of reading, singing, playing and talking with their child right from the start. International and national research continues to support that how families engage with their child has significant and long lasting impact on the development and growth of their child’s brain.
Included in this information booklet is the Nursery Rhymes for Every Day CD. Babies and children love music; by singing gentle rhymes we slow down our speech allowing babies and children to hear each part of a word and become aware of different sounds. Modern and contemporary songs will be a part of a child’s life however, research shows traditional songs and rhymes are also essential for children’s word range, vocabulary and language skills.
Songs include: Incy Wincy Spider, Hickory Dickory Dock, Galumph Went the Little Green Frog, If You’re Happy and You Know It, Twinkle, Twinkle, Five Little Speckled Frogs, Open, Shut Them, The Grand Old Duke of York, 12345 – Once I Caught a Fish Alive, Head Shoulders, Knees & Toes, Old MacDonald Had a Farm, Teddy Bear, Row, Row, Row Your Boat and Five in the Bed.

Since 2006, we have been designing and producing picture and board books, nursery rhyme CDs and DVD and activity time booklets for families to share with their children from birth. Research continues to tell us that a child’s brains will grow and develop by an amazing 80% in the first 4 years. By having fun every day through sharing stories, playing games, singing songs and lots of talking, not only helps you to bond with your baby, but will also have significant impact on the growth and development of your baby’s brain.
